What is open cloud?

Rackspace and NASA originally launched an open-source initiative as an alternative to closed cloud environments. This became known as the OpenStack® operating system. Essentially, OpenStack is an open and scalable operating system for building public and private clouds, freeing both large and small organisations from the risks of lock-in associated with proprietary platforms.

Rackspace is the open cloud company, delivering open source technologies at web scale, anywhere. Our open cloud is powered by OpenStack® and backed by Fanatical Support®– and today, a highly engaged community of over 3,300 individuals and over 180 companies including Rackspace®, Dell, HP, IBM, and Red Hat® are using it to solve real business problems.
